Appalachian Animal Refuge

WHAT WE DO
Appalachian Animal Rescue networks with other rescues and shelters to help all animals in need. We educate and assit the public with animal care issues. Through education we can achieve long term positive changes. We stay informed and support federal and state legislation giving greater protection to animals with harsher punishment to abusers.

Appalachian Animal Rescue's primary focus is rescuing cats and kittens. Many cats are abandoned, left to fend for their self. Cats reproduce in alarming numbers, 2 litters per year with 3 to 5 kittens. There are not enough homes for the kittens of cats that people allow to breed each year. Around 6 million healthy cats are destroyed annually simply because they are no homes for them. Over 80% of all cats left at Shelters do not make it out alive. They go out the back in garbage bags. Most Shelters euthanize owner relinquished pets quickly. There is still much to be done to prevent this and AAR is committed to this life saving mission.
